An SMS Test Case can be used in conjunction with an Outbound Campaign to test messaging being sent by your organization to your customer's mobile. The customer mobile numbers that you can use in your Test Cases are provided through one of our carriers. Your site administrator can provide you with a list of available numbers.
To create an SMS Test Case, perform the following steps:
- From the Cyara Sidebar, select Buildand then click the New Test Case menu item.
- Select the
Channel from the drop-down list. Choose the
SMS option. A screen as shown below is
displayed:
- Enter a unique name for the Test Case in the Name field.
- Browse and select the Folder Path where the Test Case should be stored.
- Enter a description of the Test Case in the Description field.
- Enter the Customer Mobile Number. A list of mobile numbers provisioned to your account will be provided to you upon request. Note that this field can be data driven.
- Enter Notes if any.
- Select the
Data Driven option. Data Driven Test Cases allow
you to place different dynamic data for each SMS from the same Test Case. For
more information, see the
Data Driven Test Cases section.
- If you choose Data
Driven as
YES, the options shown below appear:
You can choose either Upload File or Dynamic Data Service. If you choose Upload File, then select the file.

- To create a New Step, click
the
New Step button to add Step 0. A dialog box as
shown below appears to create a new Step:
- Click the Add Step button to add Step 0. Step 0 must be present and is a special case that represents the wait for the incoming message. Step 0 is already present in the New Test Case dialog box filled with default values ready for adding to the Test Case. Some fields for Step 0 are not editable and are grayed out.
- Click
New Step to add Step 1.
- Enter the Step No. The Step number can be adjusted to insert a Step above the existing Steps.
- Enter a brief description of the Test Step in the Description field.
- The Optional flag can indicate that subsequent Steps can still execute even if this Step was to fail.
- Enter the text in the
Expect field. The Expect text can be an
exact text match or you can make use of the wildcard tag {*}.
Note: If the Expect message has been split into multiple messages, the Expect match will stitch the messages together, attempting to match the Expect every time. This process will end when an exact match is made. Or, if a message does not form part of the Expect message, the Step will fail at that point.
- Enter the Reply field. The Reply field can be used to send back a reply which can be retrieved by your organization.
- Enter the Min/Max Pause Time values. The Min/Max Pause Time is used to generate a random delay for sending the Reply. This value can be recorded in seconds, minutes, hours, or even days.
- Enter the Minor/Major Threshold values. The Minor/Major Threshold value is used to determine the result of the Step based upon its response time. This value can be measured in seconds, minutes, hours, or days. The response time is a measure of time from the sending of the Reply from the previous Step to receiving the Expect on the current Step.
- Enter the
Mobile Number From field. The
Mobile Number From can be used to validate
the number the message was sent from. This can be a international mobile number
or a plain text sender (i.e.,
NoReply
).
